Taking Care of Your Wood Furniture

Quality wood furniture is meant to last a very long time and should be considered as an investment. By taking good care of your wood furniture, you protect your investment and maintain its natural beauty.

Wood Furniture Coating

Wood furniture is mostly covered with a thin layer of coating that is meant to protect the hardwood from environmental factors which may damage your furniture; like moisture, dirt, humid and dry weather. Besides the aesthetic aspects of wood coating, the nature of the wood needs a protecting cover to ensure durability against regular use of furniture.

Every piece of furniture reacts differently to the variations of temperature. It depends on the types and species of wood used to create your wood chairs and tables, but normally laminated woods and veneers are proven to be more stable to weather changes than solid wood planks.

Wood Furniture Lasts for Generations

Wooden furniture can last a life time with a tender careful use; a china buffet can be the perfect family inheritance, even a traditional wooden coffee table can stick with your family for a couple of generations.

Creative Covers for Your Wood Tables

Protecting your wood furniture can be done with tender use; you may want to consider a tablecloth to cover your valuable wood dining table, this can be a major surface protection technique against scratches. You can also use table pads which are available in wooden patterns so you can disguise the surface of your table without having to use a tablecloth. Another modern way of covering the surface of your wooden tables is using glass; you can buy a glass plate of a matching size to place on the top of your pedestal wood table with a tablecloth underneath, or you can replace the tablecloth with dried leaves in a creative natural decoration for your garden tables.

Cleaning Wood Furniture

Do not use much water when cleaning any wooden furniture as it may absorb a decent amount of it through the pores; you can wipe the surface of your furniture with a wet piece of soft cloth and then go through the same spots with a dry cloth; don't leave it dries of its own. You need to immediately clean your furniture in case of spills; the coating may prevent the absorption for a while, but if you leave spills on wood they eventually turn to stains. Regular dusting and cleaning removes the built up grease and dust that can soften the finishes of your shiny wooden surfaces.

Wood Furniture Refinishing

In case of deep scratches and stains, you may need to call wood refinishing professional to take care of you damaged wood furniture; don't try to repair it yourself with commercial wax products unless it's been recommended by the manufacturer. Refinishing professionals can polish your wood furniture without causing any further damage.
